So today we’re talking about conversion rate optimization. It’s another one of those terms that isn’t all that common so we get asked a lot about what it is and why it’s important.
Essentially, it’s a fancy way of saying ‘make your website perform better’. If you take a website, let’s say it’s a lead generation website like a doctor’s office that’s trying to get more patients or a university that’s trying to get more applicants. And let’s say that that website has a one percent conversion rate, which basically is a fancy way of saying that one percent of the people that come to the website that fill out your form take the action that you want them to take.
That means you need to get a hundred people to the website to get one lead. So if you can change that conversion rate and make it two percent instead of one percent suddenly you’re going to get twice as many leads from the same number of people coming to your website.
That’s what conversion rate optimization is all about. Essentially gives you the ability to greatly increase the number of leads or the end result of the campaigns that you’re running and the traffic that’s coming to your website.
So how do we do that? We look at things like the psychology, as well as the kind of physiology behind how someone consumes a web page when they when they sit, when they come to visit.
If you think about where someone looks at a web page, we look at where does their eye gaze path go? Where does their eye typically come to rest? You want the call-to-action to be in that place.
We look at things like contrast and colors that if we use high-contrast colors on call to action, it draws the eye more than low contrast colors. It’s basically really looking at all the minor details of a web page to make sure that it’s really optimized to generate the most leads that it can. So simply stated, look at it as a powerful way to supercharge the results of your marketing campaigns.
